Reduce FM contamination in ISO 7/8 clean rooms

Despite medical devices being manufactured in ISO 7/8 cleanrooms, fibers and particulate matter(FM) is the leading cause of inspection, re-work and scrap. A major source of FM is the poor cleaning performance of standard non-woven and polyester fabric cleanroom wipers. Device manufacturers now must choose between wipers that absorb and wipers that shed fibers.

Foamtec manufactures CleanWIPE® and UltraSORB® cleanroom foam wipers which are optimized to clean sub-micron to 500 micron sized particulate contamination from both devices and work surfaces. CleanWIPE® is available in certified non-cytotoxic versions and UltraSORB® is free of endotoxins.

The open cell, hair-like structure of CleanWIPE & UltraSORB foam is ideal for removing and trapping foreign matter of up to 750 microns in size from devices & cleanroom surfaces.

UltraSORB® Lightly Used

Unlike fabric or non woven “lint free” wipers, CleanWIPE & UltraSORB cleanroom foam wipers do not trade off abrasion resistance for particulate and fiber removal.

UltraSORB® Cleaning Particulates

CleanWIPE’s & UltraSORB’s open cell, varigated structure with many interstices enables the efficient cleaning of surfaces contaminated with large amounts of particulate matter sized between 50-750 microns.

Polycellulose Wiper New Out of the Bag

Non-woven “lint free” wipers are constructed of short strands of polycellulose fibers.

Polycellulose Wiper Lightly Used

Which when exposed to the abrasion typical of wiping shed large quantities of fibers greater than 50 microns.

Polycellulose Wiper Cleaning Particulates

Polycellulose has good particulate pick up, but in doing so generates vast quantities of 50-500 micron sized fibers.

Knitted Polyester cleanroom wipers are lint-free… Out-of–the-bag.

Polyester Wiper Lightly Used

But when exposed to abrasion typical of wiping, polyester wipers generate large quantities of fibers which have a high static charge.

And has very poor particulate pickup properties especially for large fibers.
